    Peaking RoR Projects in Mugu

    Upper Mugu Karnali (306 MW) and Namlan Khola (135 MW) are proposed hydropower projects in Mugu, utilizing the Mugu Karnali and Namlan Rivers. Gamgadhi is the nearest town, accessible by road and flights. Local micro-hydropower stations provide electricity, and Nepal Telecom offers connectivity. Both projects received technical assistance from the U.S. DFC, with Tractebel Engineering GmbH leading the studies.

    Upper Balephi is a 46 MW hydropower project in Sindhupalchowk, Nepal, using the Balephi River. It features an underground powerhouse and will connect to the Pantang Substation. The site, 140 km from Kathmandu, faces access challenges due to steep terrain and monsoon conditions. This is the second project in the Balephi River corridor after Upper Balephi “A” (36 MW).

Located 50 km from Khandbari, near the Arun-3 powerhouse, it faces access challenges. The project will connect to the Sitalpati Substation. Pukhuwa, the nearest settlement, thrives on agriculture and has recent transport and connectivity improvements.
