Lower Apsuwa Hydropower Project is a run-of-river hydropower project located in Sankhuwasabha district of Province 1 in eastern Nepal. The project was identified under the screening and ranking study of Small Hydropower Projects conducted by the Department of Electricity Development (DoED), Government of Nepal. Feasibility and EIA Study of the project was carried out by DoED which was completed in March 2020.
Mizu Energy Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Golyan Group, has acquired this project from the DoED in August 2020. At present optimization of the project along with detailed engineering design is being carried out. Nexus Engineering Consultancy & Construction Pvt. Ltd. has been appointed as the Design Consultant of the project.
The project is located in Silichong Rural Municipality and Makalu Rural Municipality. The area has about 40 km road distance to the north of Khandbari, the district headquarter. Tumlingtar Airport is the nearest airport from the project area. The proposed intake is located in Yanden Village of Silichong-5 at right bank and Makalu-1 at left bank of Sankhuwashabha district. The proposed powerhouse site is located at the right bank of Arun River, Bendakshuwa village Makalu-6 just upstream of Bendaksuwa Khola and Arun river confluence.
Currently, additional topographical survey for 200 ha has been carried out that includes area where components are updated from the feasibility study. Additional 8 boreholes of 310 m of drilling has been carried out for confirmation of suitability of updated location of project components. Additional 6 test pits have also been excavated for construction material survey.
