Chhujung Khola Hydropower Project is located in Bhotkhola Rural Municipality of Sankhuwasabha district in Province 1 of Nepal. The Chhujung Khola is a tributary of the Arun River and is a snow-fed river. The project area is just outside of the buffer zone of Makalu Barun Conservation Area. The project is located in the rocks of Higher Himalayan zone near the Arun Window that has the monotonous sequence of banded gneiss with occasional schist and amphibolite.
Chhujung Khola Hydropower Project is being developed by Sangrila Urja Pvt. Ltd. Jade Consult is carrying out the feasibility study of this project.
The approximate road distance to Barun Bazar is about 620 km northeast of Kathmandu which is the nearest point having the vehicular access in the project site. From Khandbari, the district headquarters of Sankhuwasabha, the road leads to Num-Dobhan whose upgrading works are ongoing. Track has been opened from Dobhan up to Chyamtang, however, a 4×4 passenger vehicle can go up to Barun Bazar at present. The distance from Khandbari to Barun Bazar is approximately 90 km, which takes around 6-7 hours travelling due to the condition of road.
Footrail of about 30 km will lead from Barun Bazar to Chyamtang via Rukuma, Chepuwa and Lingam.
